Job Description

Job Summary:
As an Accountant for Laurens County, you will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity and transparency of our fiscal operations to ensure the county's continued success. You will perform essential technical accounting functions, including reconciliation and financial reporting, that directly support the efficient delivery of public services to our community.
Top Responsibilities:
Financial Reconciliation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate accounting records by reconciling revenue registers, managing Bank of America transaction sweeps, and ensuring data is correctly processed within the Finance Department's system.
Operational Support:
Manage daily deposit activities, process retiree insurance payments, and provide backup support for accounts payable to ensure uninterrupted financial operations.
Audit & Project Assistance:
Partner with the Finance Director to assist in the preparation of the annual audit and provide dedicated support for special projects and ongoing general ledger maintenance.
Requirements What you bring:
Experience:
3-4 years of accounting experience is preferred, ideally within the government sector; however, any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the necessary skills will be considered.
Education:
A bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration is preferred.
Skill Highlight:
Knowledge of general financial accounting, ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles, excellent organizational skills, with a high degree of attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with department heads, staff, vendors, and the public.
Licenses/Certifications:
A valid SC driver's license.
