We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Senior Bookkeeper / Accounting Specialist to manage the day-to-day accounting functions of our organization. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of accrual-based accounting principles, demonstrate exceptional analytical skills, and be capable of working independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing payroll, sales commissions, managing accounts payable and receivable, preparing financial reports, and coordinating with external accounting professionals to ensure timely and accurate year-end close activities. Key Responsibilities Perform monthly bank reconciliations and ensure the accuracy of all cash transactions. Process payroll accurately and on schedule while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations. Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including invoice processing, payment application, and collections follow-up. Prepare timely and accurate internal managerial financial statements and supporting reports. File and remit Multi-State and Canadian sales taxes in accordance with regulatory requirements. Maintain organized and accurate financial records and historical documentation through proper filing and record retention practices. Collaborate with external CPA firms to support timely year-end closing procedures and financial reporting requirements. Analyze financial data and generate reports that support management decision-making. Assist with process improvements and adapt to evolving accounting procedures and business needs. Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements. Handle some office management and HR/Benefit duties. Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience. Strong understanding of accrual basis accounting. Proven experience with bank reconciliations, payroll processing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Experience preparing internal financial statements and management reports. Experience paying out sales commissions. Knowledge of Multi-State and Canadian sales tax filing requirements. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis and reporting functions. Experience with Sage 50 Accounting software preferred. Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong follow-up skills and commitment to meeting deadlines. Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability in changing work environments. Ability to manage multiple priorities, expedite urgent requests, and maintain high-quality work under pressure.
