POSITION PURPOSE
South Dakota Mines is looking for a motivated individual to fill a Senior Accountant position and join our finance team. South Dakota Mines operates under the constitutional authority of the South Dakota Board of Regents. Under the general supervision of the Assistant Controller, the Senior Accountant performs professional‑level accounting work requiring thorough kledge of generally accepted accounting principles andernmental accounting standards. This position is responsible for reconciliations, preparation and review of journal entries, support of institutional financial reporting andpliance, and assistance with audit and year‑end close activities. The Senior Accountant works collaboratively within the Finance Office to support accurate, timely, andpliant financial operations in accordance with state, federal, and Board of Regents requirements. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills within a dynamic environment that values integrity and precision in financial management. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform monthly reconciliations across institutional and state financial systems. Prepare, review, and post journal entries and accounting adjustments. Assist with year‑end close processes and internal control documentation. Prepare schedules and data for institutional, state, and federal financial reports. Support internal and external audits andpliance activities. Review accounting transactions and corrections as directed. Maintain accurate financial records inpliance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures. Provide professional accounting support within the Finance Office Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field and five (5) years of professional accounting experience (Abination of relevant education and experience may also be considered) Kledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) Experience in using accounting systems and financial reporting tools. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and related applications Preferred Qualifications Experience inernmental accounting or higher education finance Experience in performingplex reconciliations and financial analysis. Generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) Governmental accounting practices and reporting requirements Ability to: Analyze and reconcileplex financial information. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing Work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
