About Us We are a growing real estate company that owns and operates a portfolio of more than 120 residential and retail properties across Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. Our company focuses on disciplined growth, operational excellence, and long-term value creation. Position Summary The Senior Accountant is an individual contributor responsible for core accounting functions for a privately owned portfolio of primarily residential properties, with some commercial assets. Reporting directly to the Controller, this position works collaboratively with another in-house accountant and closely partners with the operations team. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, timely month-end close, and strong internal controls within a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. This position will also support ongoing accounting projects and process improvement initiatives across the portfolio. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with a background in public accounting or a larger organization who are looking to transition into a hands-on role with direct exposure to ownership and operational decision-making. Key Responsibilities Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for a large residential and commercial property portfolio Execute the month-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, prepaid expenses, and fixed assets Reconcile operating and escrow bank accounts Account for property taxes, insurance, and owner-level transactions Prepare owner distribution calculations and supporting schedules Assist with annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis Support audits, tax preparation, and lender reporting by preparing schedules and documentation Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies and procedures Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and strengthen internal controls Collaborate closely with the Controller, other office team members, and the operations team Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required 5+ years of accounting experience, including experience in public accounting, property management, or a larger corporate environment Strong understanding of GAAP and month-end close processes Experience in audit, assurance, or financial reporting within public accounting is a plus Property management accounting experience preferred but not required Experience with AppFolio or other property management systems preferred Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and complex reconciliations CPA or CPA-track strongly preferred Skills and Competencies Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to manage a high-volume, multi-entity portfolio Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across accounting and operations Excellent organizational and time management skills Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Clear and professional communication skills Ability to work independently while contributing as part of a team Work Environment In-office position located in Hendersonville, TN Monday through Friday schedule Fast-paced environment with recurring monthly close deadlines Privately owned portfolio with direct interaction with executive leadership Why Join Us This role offers the opportunity to build and shape the accounting function of a growing real estate company. Pay:
$70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
