Job Description

This position is based at our Corporate Headquarters in Oak Ridge, TN. It follows a hybrid/remote schedule (in the office 1-2 days/week). The deadline to apply for this opportunity is June 4, 2026.
Role :
The GL Accountant III concentrates on the accounting operations and prepares complex general ledger account reconciliations. The GL Accountant III assists with the preparation of monthly financial reports and is instrumental in the preparation of managerial reports and variance analyses.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities :
Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records. Develops, implements, modifies, and documents recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology. Prepares income and balance sheet statements, consolidated statements, and various other accounting statements and reports. Completes accounting functions in accordance with established Credit Union policies and procedures. Completes complex general ledger reconciliations and accounting functions in accordance with established Credit Union policies and procedures. Reviews complex reconcilements prepared by other GL Accountants. Writes and updates Accounting procedures. Assists in annual external audits and NCUA examination processes. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Experience :
Five or more years of accounting or financial institution experience, including a strong understanding of GAAP, is required. Experience working in a credit union environment preferred. Experience with Symitar preferred.
Education :
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or in a related field is required.
Other Skills Required :
This position requires knowledge of financial accounting principles, balance sheets and income statements. Basic input, output, error correction, and general ledger account structure knowledge is essential. Strong knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices. Must possess advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Excel. Must be detailed oriented, able to plan and organize and set priorities in order to meet deadlines. Ability to handle multiple projects under a high degree of pressure.
