Job Description

  • The Junior Accountant plays a key role in supporting the organization's financial operations.
This position is responsible for managing accounts receivable and assisting with various accounting tasks to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and will also be the assistant to the CFO as needed.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting responsibilities as assigned (a/r, cash receipts, enter revenue accruals). Monitor and follow up on a/r, including Medicaid and point of contact with third party for Medicaid and any Medicaid credentialing liaison. Will enter Foster Family accruals monthly and track payments. Train staff as needed and requested. Will enter budgets into accounting platform. Will be back up to payables and cross train as needed. Tracks grants and designated expenses monthly and updates spreadsheet. Will be a key employee during the annual fiscal audit to gather and pull and disseminate data to auditors as needed and requested promptly and efficiently. Will pull/compile data for 990's and cost report as needed and requested. Will be able to cross train and be back up for payroll and payables. Finance filing and creating new files/record retention. Will bill grants and contracts as needed. Carries out other duties as assigned by supervisor. All other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a high school graduate with 3 years of non profit finance experience related to a/r. Must have strong computer skills related to use of Excel and Word. Experience working with web-based client information systems is strongly preferred. Motivated self-starter with strong problem-solving skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality on all matters. Basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Must possess excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work cooperatively with personnel of the Home, members of the Helping Hand Society, customers, clients, clients' families, volunteers, regulatory personnel, and vendors, as well as the ability to resolve conflicts in a professional, collaborative manner. Must be able to accept constructive feedback and take corrective action with a positive attitude. Must be able to work in a stressful and occasionally unpredictable environment and to respond to crisis situations without overreaction or loss of objectivity. Must be flexible and be able to adapt to a dynamic work environment. Must be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid driver's license, have a good driving record which allows insurance coverage by the Home's auto insurance policy, and obtain a recent tuberculosis test or chest X-ray verifying no active tuberculosis. Must authorize Helping Hand Home to check employment references and to conduct a background check in accordance with requirements of the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services.
