Job Description

Performs professional accounting functions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP/GASB). Responsible for maintaining the general ledger, performing reconciliations, preparing financial reports, supporting audits, assisting with budget development, and administering accounts payable processes. Exercises independent judgment within established policies while supporting the daily operations of the Finance Department. 1. General Accounting & Cash Management Prepare and post journal entries Perform monthly reconciliations (bank, investments, and balance sheet accounts) Assist with cash management Maintain financial records and supporting documentation 2. Financial Reporting & Analysis Prepare financial reports (e.g. debt service, City Council, management) Compile financial and statistical data for internal and external use Support financial analysis, forecasting, and trend monitoring Assist with hotel occupancy tax reporting and unclaimed property processing 3. Budget Administration Assist in development and preparation of the annual budget Monitor revenues and expenditures for compliance with the approved budget Support budget forecasting, reporting, and workshops 4. Audit, Compliance & Internal Controls Assist with preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) Coordinate audit documentation and respond to auditor requests Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations Identify process improvements and risk mitigation opportunities 5. Accounts Payable & Purchasing Support Review, verify, and process invoices Maintain vendor records and compliance documentation (W-9s, 1099s) Research and resolve accounts payable discrepancies Support purchasing and financial control procedures 6. Departmental Support & Cross-Functional Duties Provide backup support for court and utility billing operations Maintain records in compliance with retention requirements 7. Administrative Duties Maintain financial information on the City website Promote a professional work environment Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
GAAP/GASB and governmental accounting principles Financial reporting and internal controls Budgeting and public sector finance Microsoft Excel and modern office systems
Skills and Abilities:
Prepare and analyze financial data accurately Interpret and apply regulations and policies Communicate effectively, both written and verbal Manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
