Job Description
Description We are looking for a Payroll Accountant to support payroll operations for a manufacturing organization in Dallas, Texas. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for an individual with strong experience in payroll accounting, tax reporting, and multi-state payroll compliance. The person in this role will help maintain accurate payroll records, support timely payroll processing, and ensure reporting obligations are completed correctly across multiple entities and jurisdictions.
Responsibilities:
Reconcile payroll-related accounts and record monthly payroll journal entries to support accurate financial reporting.
Prepare, review, and submit recurring state-required reports, including multiple worksite filings, with close attention to deadlines and accuracy.
Generate standard and special payroll tax reports for internal review, compliance needs, and management requests.
Maintain payroll tax setup information in the payroll system and apply updates to employee tax data when changes occur.
Support tax filing activities involving multi-state payroll and merger or acquisition scenarios, ensuring proper treatment and documentation.
Investigate payroll tax questions from employees and leadership, provide clear guidance, and resolve issues in a timely manner.
Process payroll for multiple companies using UKG and Kronos platforms, including manual payments when exceptions arise.
Review payroll registers and supporting documentation for discrepancies, make corrections as needed, and respond to employee questions related to pay, deductions, and compensation changes.
Assist with internal audit requests, preserve confidentiality of sensitive employee information, and participate in testing for payroll updates, implementations, and new earning or deduction codes. Requirements
5+ years of experience in payroll accounting, payroll operations, or a closely related function.
Demonstrated expertise in full-cycle payroll processing across multiple states.
Strong knowledge of payroll tax reporting, tax setup administration, and compliance requirements.
Hands-on experience with UKG Pro, UKG Ready, Kronos, or similar payroll systems.
Ability to prepare account reconciliations and payroll journal entries with a high level of accuracy.
Experience supporting payroll tax filings connected to mergers, acquisitions, or multi-entity environments.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills for resolving payroll inquiries and explaining payroll matters clearly.
