Job Description
Description We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team in Galveston, Texas. In this Contract position with the possibility of becoming permanent, you will play a key role in overseeing financial operations and ensuring accurate reporting, compliance, and analysis. This role offers the opportunity to grow into an Assistant Finance Director position, providing a clear path for career advancement.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain detailed financial records, including general ledger entries and financial reports.
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Reconcile bank statements and identify discrepancies to maintain financial integrity.
- Assist in developing budgets and conducting financial forecasts to support organizational planning.
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local financial regulations, as well as organizational requirements.
- Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to provide insights into financial performance.
- Facilitate internal and external audit processes by providing necessary documentation and support.
- Monitor and manage grant funding to ensure proper allocation and utilization.
- Collaborate with various departments to address financial concerns and provide guidance on fiscal matters. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
- In-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Preferably, experience working with housing authority or federally funded programs.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex financial challenges.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in financial tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in accounting or finance.
- Familiarity with month-end close processes, general ledger management, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
