POSITION SUMMARY
Targa is currently seeking a Senior Property Accountant for their office located in Houston, TX. The Senior Property Accountant is responsible for month-end close activities in Property Accounting, including recording activity within the PP&E subledger, billings of capital costs to third parties, and accounting for asset retirement obligations. The candidate must be detail oriented, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and work well with others at various levels within the organization. The ideal candidate must also be able to think and work independently, identify issues and present potential solutions.
JOB DUTIES & RESPOSIBILITIES
Prepare various PP&E Rollforward schedules for various reporting entities. Actively gather and analyze data for PP&E cash flow tagging to ensure appropriate cash flow statement treatment. Work with other departments to properly account for asset retirement obligations (ARO) and environmental liability reserve obligations. Prepare and review quarterly and annual property disclosure footnotes for public company SEC reporting requirements. Collaborate with teammates to ensure capitalization policies are followed and provide guidance, as necessary to departments outside of accounting. Prepare all assigned monthly account reconciliations. Perform research on various accounting topics as requested and provide recommendations to Management in a clear and concise manner. Collaborate with various stakeholder groups to ensure successful completion of tasks. Maintain desk procedures and SOX documentation for assigned areas. Respond to inquiries from auditors ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Assist with any special projects that may arise. Calculate and invoice expenses for assigned joint venture and joint interest properties, ensuring accurate cost allocation and timely invoicing. Reconcile miscellaneous refund and rebate checks, ensuring accurate recording, proper account allocation, and proper gain/loss recognition. Recognize potential issues and risks and determine plan to mitigate risks. Implement process improvements for company's property accounting function to help improve accuracy and efficiency and to support the company's capital projects. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or Finance. 3+ years of public accounting and/or corporate accounting experience. Strong knowledge of GAAP and an understanding of internal controls. Proficient in Excel to at least an intermediate level. Thorough attention to detail and proven analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication with ability to adjust style depending on audience. Strong planning and organization skills with ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines and adapt effectively to new and changing environments. Ability to work independently and in a team environment, including with other departments. Regular and reliable attendance with ability and willingness to work overtime, especially during close and billing cycles. Prior use of an ERP system. Regular and reliable attendance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Certified Public Accountant or Masters. Comprehensive knowledge and experience with property/project accounting, cost capitalization, project reimbursable billings, and understanding of financial statements. Experience with Oracle Financials Cloud (OFC) and OneStream. Understanding of ASC 842 and ASC 606. Energy sector experience.
