Houston, TX Position Summary The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the organization by maintaining accurate accounting records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and regulatory requirements. This position plays a key role in supporting the organization's mission through sound financial stewardship and accountability. Key Responsibilities Track client Passbook accounts, make all appropriate accounting entries, and reconcile the accounts. Prepare and record journal entries and maintain the general ledger. Reconcile bank accounts, credit card accounts, and balance sheet accounts monthly. Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes. Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation. Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules. Assist with annual financial audits and preparation of audit schedules. Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and nonprofit accounting standards. Duties as assigned Education Preferred Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. Experience 2-5 years of accounting experience required. Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Blackbaud Financial Edge, or similar systems. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Commitment to the mission and values of the organization. Working Conditions On-site Occasional evening or weekend work may be required during audits, budget preparation, or reporting deadlines. Ability to sit for extended periods and use standard office equipment.
