JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision by the Manager of Accounting, the Senior General Ledger Accountant is responsible for reconciling the general ledger accounts of the Greater Salt Lake Municipal Services District (MSD), allocating costs to members, doing bank reconciliations, and providing other financial services to the
MSD. MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, or other closely related field, plus five (5) years of relevant experience. Education may be substituted for the required relevant experience. CPA preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties and responsibilities are intended to be representative of the work performed by the incumbent(s) in this position and are not all-inclusive. Applicants must be prepared to demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation. Assign expenses to the appropriate general ledger account. Reconcile monthly entries from the enterprise system to the accounting system. Complete month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reconciliations and financial procedures. Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts with supporting documents. Allocate development-related and administrative overhead costs to member communities. Update cost allocation schedules and assumptions. Provide financial oversight and financial customer service to the MSD and its member communities. Prepare financial reports in an easy-to-understand format to present to MSD Board of Trustees and member councils. Assist with the preparation of the annual budget reports. Prepare a variety of studies, reports, and related information for decision-making purposes. Assist with the completion of the annual audit. Establish and maintain internal control procedures and perform periodic internal audits. Conduct reconciliations for bank statements, funds, GL accounts, and payroll. Post journal entries and adjustments to the general ledger.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), with emphasis in the areas of governmental accounting and financial reporting Effective budgeting principles, methods, and techniques Accounting principles relating to all Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) statements Accounting department functions Effective communication methods and public relations Coordination of independent audit activities from the client side Utah Code Annotated and related State and Federal rules and policies State of Utah Fiscal Procedures Act Skills and Abilities to: Conduct in-depth analysis for complex journal entries and monthly reconciliations Prepare financial reports and documentation Provide quality customer service Perform financial analysis and interpretation Effectively use financial database programs Analyze and make recommendations for changes in procedures and financing processes Communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively both verbally and in writing Effectively plan, organize, and perform tasks even under stressful situations Act independently and use sound judgment Possess strong problem-solving, creative skills, and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Pay:
$55.00 - $65.00 per hour
