Description:
Responsible for the Accounting and Finance Department for Freedom Financial Holdings, and The Freedom Bank of Virginia's ("FDVA" or the "Bank") day-to-day activities with respect to the Bank's general accounting systems, internal and external financial reporting, enterprise-wide control environment, timely/accurate payment processing, and timely/accurate payroll processing, and processing of stock based compensation to include restricted shares grants, vesting, and forfeitures. The CAO manages a department of four or five staff to accomplish the same. General Ledger Account Maintenance The Chief Accounting Officer ("CAO") is responsible for the oversight and maintenance of all general ledger accounts within the consolidated entity. Loan reconciliations are prepared in the Loan Department; however, the CAO is responsible for ensuring that each has been prepared/reviewed timely and appropriately archived. Additionally, the CAO will be required to assist in the preparation of the annual budget, forecasting, and subsequent reporting process. Financial Reporting The CAO is responsible for reviewing all financial reporting to be filed with third party entities. The CAO should have a strong understanding of GAAP and be efficient/effective in conducting research to cite authoritative accounting guidance for various positions taken within the Bank. This individual will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports including, but not limited to: Call Report Periodic Equity Reports/Forms 4, 5 Earnings Release/10Q Annual Report/10K State and Federal Tax Filings Regulatory filings with Federal Reserve Regulatory filings with State Corporation Commission Control Environment The CAO is responsible for implementing and maintaining an enterprise-wide risk-based control environment within the Bank. This responsibility will involve collaboration with all departments of the Bank to ensure that adequate controls are in place and that they are being appropriately documented. The CAO is responsible for writing and updating procedures. The CAO and staff will be responsible for responding to external and internal audit requests and maintaining the necessary documentation. Committee Attendance The CAO is responsible for regular attendance of various internal committee meetings including, but not limited to Board, Risk & Audit Committee, Pricing and Investment Committee, CECL Committee, Board ALCO, and other meetings as required . This responsibility also includes ensuring timely preparation of committee documentation and thorough review of committee packages prior to attendance. Taxation The CAO should be familiar with corporate taxation, including, but not limited to, effective tax rate calculations, quarterly tax provision calculations, conducting state nexus studies, and general tax mitigation strategies. Additionally, this individual should be familiar with payroll withholding taxes and will be responsible for managing/communicating with state and local taxing authorities. The CAO is the primary contact between the firm and the firm's tax accountants. Interest Rate Risk, Forecasting, and Liquidity Operations The CAO oversees the staff responsible for preparation of financial reports used in Asset/Liability Management Operations. The CAO will assist in the preparation of the annual budget and periodic forecasts. The Accounting Department is responsible for recording and settling borrowings, investment purchases and sales and interfacing with Deposit Ops and the Wire Room when necessary to move money.
Requirements:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (Actively Licensed) preferred, but will consider candidates with strong professional accounting experience in the banking industry. Minimum of 10 years' experience, preferably in public accounting with focus on banking or directly in banking industry. Knowledge and experience of Fiserv Premier & Prologue or similar core systems offered by FIS and Jack Henry. Effective oral and written communication skills with ability to discuss findings and recommendations in a succinct manner Interact professionally with internal teams, executive level management, and external vendors to acquire knowledge, resolve issues and manage projects. Capable of working independently and making decisions accordingly. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Ability to think through problems and visualize solutions. Good communication, analytical and problem-solving skills. Experience managing accounting teams Dependable and flexible when necessary.
