Job DescriptionJob Description Real Estate Accountant & Leasing Manager Location | 3301 Colley Ave, Norfolk, VA 23508 ⏳ Full-Time (Part-Time Possible) | Monday - Friday 8AM-5PM Pay | Competitive; based on experience and demonstrated skill. Stokes Environmental Associates is seeking a highly organized, proactive professional to perform accounting and lease administration for an established portfolio of investment real estate, consisting of commercial and multifamily properties. This position includes accounting functions, lease administration, rent collection oversight, and supervising property management. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, responsive, and communicates effectively. This manager works closely with ownership and plays a central part in keeping financial and property operations running smoothly. This role offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to grow alongside a family-owned company with long-term investment goals.
Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Management Serve as the primary accounting manager for assigned properties. Prepare and deliver monthly financial income statements, periodic balance sheets, and supporting schedules (cash and accrual basis). Perform day-to-day accounting functions including reconciliations, journal entries, balance sheet tracking, and work paper preparation. Review and process approved payables; confirm cash availability, and initiate timely payments. Monitor rent receipts and ensure accurate recording of all income. Analyze financial results, investigate budget variances, and assist with cash flow projections. Support audits and maintain compliance with internal accounting policies. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency. Leasing & Property Operations Oversee lease administration, including: Drafting and sending lease renewal letters Preparing rent increase notifications Tracking lease expirations and renewals Monitor rent collections and proactively follow up on outstanding balances. Serve as a professional point of contact for tenants regarding billing and lease-related matters. Coordinate maintenance requests by communicating with tenants and vendors. Maintain organized tenant records and ensure compliance with lease terms. Build positive relationships with tenants while maintaining clear policies and expectations. Assist with financial performance analysis and ad hoc reporting as needed.
Requirements:
Minimum 2 years of hands-on accounting experience. Property management or real estate accounting experience is strongly preferred. Experience with lease administration. Strong understanding of financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements. Proficient in Microsoft Excel. Experience with Quickbooks required. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field. Comfortable balancing financial accuracy with tenant-facing responsibilities. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills and follow-through. Self-starter who can manage multiple priorities with limited supervision. High level of discretion and professionalism when handling financial and tenant information.
