Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to support core financial operations for non-profit organization based in Burlington, Vermont. This role is responsible for the day-to-day accounting activities, maintains accurate financial records, and helps ensure timely reporting across multiple funding sources. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to work closely with operational and payroll partners.
Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily accounting activities across payables, receivables, and the general ledger to keep financial records complete and current.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with established accounting standards.
  • Lead month-end closing tasks, including reviewing balances, resolving discrepancies, and supporting the timely completion of financial reports.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts on a regular basis to maintain accuracy and strengthen financial controls.
  • Oversee accounting for grant- and trust-related funds, with careful attention to restrictions, reporting needs, and documentation requirements.
  • Use QuickBooks to maintain accounting data, generate reports, and support reliable day-to-day financial management.
  • Develop, apply, and reinforce accounting policies and procedures that align with organizational expectations and compliance standards.
  • Partner with organizational leadership, operations, and payroll staff to coordinate financial information and support effective workflows.
