Job DescriptionJob Description Play a key role in safeguarding the accuracy and integrity of our financial operations. In this role, you'll own and manage complex general ledger accounts, oversee critical accounting functions, and partner closely with management to ensure strong financial controls and reporting. You'll serve as a trusted resource for accountants, providing day‑to‑day guidance and stepping in as a point of leadership in the manager's absence. You'll also contribute to internal and external audits, regulatory examinations, and filings-while having opportunities to support meaningful special projects and strategic initiatives that move the organization forward. Major Duties and ResponsibilitiesWeightDescription 25% Performs daily, weekly, monthly reconciliations for specific general ledger accounts that may have a higher degree of complexity and ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards. Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner by collaborating with relevant departments, to clear outstanding items, and ensure timely reconciliation to support accurate financial reporting. 20% Could assist the VP Controller and Accounting Manager with the preparation of the annual budget and financial forecasts by gathering data from other departments and creating a detailed budget for Senior Management. 15% May prepare and submit assigned regulatory and management financial reports, including the FR2900 (weekly) and the
NCUA 5300
Call Report (quarterly), ensuring accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements. 10% May perform or serve as back up for the advanced accounting functions involving more specialized areas, such as investments, derivatives, lease accounting, secondary market transactions and reconciliation, and mortgage servicing rights (MSRs). Responsibilities include accurate recording, analysis, and reconciliation of related accounts in compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements. 10% May be responsible for processing prepaid expenses and accruals, including recording, tracking and reconciling entries to ensure period-end financial reporting in accordance with accounting policies and timelines. 5% Provide support and serve as a backup to other accountants by assisting with various daily and weekly account reconciliations. Ensure continuity of operations by maintaining accuracy and timeliness in financial processes during period of absence or increased workload. 5% Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of policies, procedures, and workflows related to assigned functional areas, ensuring clarity, consistency, and compliance with organizational standards 5% Conduct and assist with other duties and special projects as requested. Cross train to cover for and assist other accounting department staff as needed. 5% Support the annual external financial statement audit by providing the required reconciliations and supporting documentation. Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Knowledge and Skills Experience Five years to eight years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience preferred. A candidate with a minimum of two years in public accounting would be considered. Financial accounting experience and understanding of GAAP required. Specialized knowledge in regulatory and credit union regulations preferred. Education/Certifications/Licenses A college degree; Bachelor's degree in accounting. Interpersonal Skills A significant level of trust, credibility and diplomacy is required. In-depth dialogue, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors can be of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature. Communications may involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance. Typically includes subject matter experts as well as first level to middle managers. Other Skills Must be at least 18 years of age. Favorable Background, Credit, Criminal, Bondability, and Reference Checks required. (Motor Vehicle check dependent on position.) ADA Requirements Physical Requirements Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance. Working Conditions Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise. Mental and/or Emotional Requirements Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities.
