Accounting Supervisor Friends of Pima Animal Care Center Tucson, AZ Job Details Full-time $70,000 - $80,000 a year 4 hours ago Benefits Paid holidays Health insurance Dental insurance Vision insurance 401(k) matching Qualifications Driver's License Full Job Description Summary The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for professional accounting, reporting, and audit preparation by applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) at the Friends Pet Clinic (Clinic), a low-cost veterinary practice, and Friends of PACC (FOP), which both support the animals adopted from PACC. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this role is responsible for overseeing the accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, and the ongoing improvement of policies and procedures. The position requires the application of independent judgment and working collaboratively as part of a team. The ideal candidate is an analytical, detail-oriented professional who enjoys solving accounting related issues and brings kindness, a sense of humor and a genuine care and concern for the team, both individually and collectively. Job Description & Responsibilities Finance and accounting leadership. Provide oversight, guidance, and support to bookkeeper staff to ensure accurate and timely financial processing. Oversee various accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards, regulatory requirements, and internal controls. Perform monthly bank account and credit card reconciliations for the CFO to approve. Ensure A/P and A/R transactions are posted/accrued to QuickBooks prior to month-end close. Work closely with Clinic and FOP staff to ensure accuracy and staff development. Ensure management has reviewed and approved all expenses. Prepares, reviews, and approves routine journal entries daily and submits complex journal entries to CFO for approval. Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, program budgets, and actual expenditures. Support annual audit activity. Responsible for posting and transferring payroll transactions. Oversee various financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for funders and management. Work collaboratively with the CFO and other team members to support organizational financial operations. Manage and facilitate various reporting requirements and notify the CFO of any changes in process or requirements to ensure that the organization's nonprofit status remains in good standing. Assist with annual budget preparation and supporting documentation. Team Leadership Encourage and increase the understanding of staff and leadership to help them grow and expand their knowledge, including helping them fully understand their budgets. Maintain a friendly, outgoing, and positive attitude, understanding that your job is to help others as needed through education, explanation, or research on new methods that would provide a better solution. Qualifications This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced nonprofit accountant to move into a leadership position within the Friends of PACC/Friends Pet Clinic organizations. Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance preferred but will consider confirmable experience in noted areas. Experience with QuickBooks Online Experience with Microsoft Products (Excel, Word, Teams) Experience with EZ Vet software is a plus but not required. Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit auditing principles Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Sharp attention to detail Strong written and oral communication skills Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks. Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and unwavering commitment to the organization's mission. Ability to function as part of team, be self-motivated, and able to work independently. Valid Arizona driver's license and ability to meet insurance requirements. A valid Arizona driver's license is required at the time of appointment. Compensation Position is salary/exempt at $70,000 - $80,000 annually commensurate with competitive experience and qualifications. Our mission is to support and enhance PACC's efforts to save the lives of pets in need. We grant critically needed resources—such as veterinary care, medications, and equipment—to Pima Animal Care Center so that it can continue the amazing lifesaving progress it has made in recent years. We envision a future in which every pet that comes to PACC is supported with the resources needed to find a loving home. Friends Pet Clinic is a low-cost, nonprofit veterinary clinic dedicated to providing accessible care to pets in need across Pima County. Our purpose is to support eligible pet families by ensuring that all animals, regardless of their owner's financial situation, have access to essential veterinary services.
