We are rolling out new statewide initiatives and strengthening our foster care programs—and we're looking for a Supervising Governmental Auditor I (SGA I) who is ready to make an impact. In this key role, you will lead a dedicated team of auditors within the Performance Audits Unit, working under the direction of the Fiscal and Performance Bureau Chief (SGA II). Your team conducts on-site, desk, and hybrid fiscal and performance audits of nonprofit provider organizations that receive federal funding to support foster children in out-of-home care. You will guide the team's work to ensure that every audit aligns with Government Auditing Standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, while promoting consistent application of the Bureau's audit policies and procedures. Your expertise will help determine compliance with complex state and federal requirements, and you will also represent the Department in defending protested or appealed audits before Administrative Law Judges. Working Conditions This position may require 25% - 35% travel by various modes of transportation, including airplane, trains, automobiles, and overnight stays. This work location is very convenient! The CDSS is located two blocks from the light rail and public transportation: within walking distance to the State Capitol, parks, restaurants, farmer's markets and the Golden 1 Arena. Our building has easy access to I-5, Highway 50, and Highway 80. This position is eligible for hybrid work in accordance with the Governor's Executive Order N-22-25 and at the sole discretion of the Department of Social Services under California Government Code Section 14200. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be re-evaluated at any time. The incumbent will be expected to report for in office work and attend work related in-person events as deemed operationally necessary. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the CDSS policies. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.
