About the Opportunity We are a well-established accounting practice specializing in nonprofit organizations and mission-driven clients. We are seeking an experienced Audit Professional to provide seasonal and project-based support during peak audit periods throughout the year. This opportunity is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys detailed audit work, values organization and accuracy, and appreciates a collaborative, hands-on office environment. Our firm utilizes a practical and thorough audit approach that incorporates both traditional documentation and accounting software systems. The ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in producing accurate work, is comfortable navigating audit files and supporting documentation, and can work independently while supporting a collaborative audit team. Responsibilities Perform audit fieldwork, testing, and financial statement preparation for nonprofit and other organizational clients Review financial statements, general ledgers, reconciliations, and supporting documentation Prepare and organize audit workpapers and client files Perform analytical review procedures and account analysis Examine supporting documentation for propriety and accuracy Identify discrepancies, missing documentation, or areas requiring follow-up Communicate professionally with clients and internal staff regarding audit requests and outstanding items Work with team members to meet audit deadlines Assist with additional accounting, or special projects as needed Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling client financial information Qualifications Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in audit, public accounting, or related accounting work required Experience working with nonprofit organizations strongly preferred Familiarity with audit procedures, financial statements, and internal controls Strong attention to detail, organization, and documentation practices Comfortable working with physical files, spreadsheets, and accounting software systems Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing workflow demands during busy periods Self-directed, dependable, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision Strong written and verbal communication skills CPA or prior public accounting experience is a plus Experience with QuickBooks, Excel, and audit software platforms is helpful Independent Contractor Requirements Candidate must be able to independently satisfy applicable requirements for independent contractor status under California law Must maintain appropriate business licensing, tax reporting, and business operations consistent with independent contractor engagement Ability to provide services on a project-based, non-exclusive basis preferred Contractor will maintain confidentiality and independence in the manner and means of performing services, consistent with applicable legal guidelines Work Environment This is an on-site position based in Westlake Village, California. The role requires regular in-office collaboration and handling of physical audit documentation and files. Work Arrangement This is a contractor/per diem opportunity intended to support seasonal and fluctuating business needs. Hours are not guaranteed and may vary throughout the year depending on client engagements and workflow demands.
