In order to qualify for the GS-13 , you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include: 1) Interpreting accounting and auditing standards, methods, and techniques to review audit documentation, such as provider cost reports or financial statements, for accuracy and compliance or to provide technical guidance; 2) Reviewing and analyzing healthcare financial management and accounting information, and related systems to identify and resolve accounting or auditing discrepancies; AND 3) Drafting technical financial management documents, including regulations, manuals, guidelines, memoranda, or reports, to support consistent application of financial policies related to Medicaid, CHIP, or other national healthcare programs. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.Education Education Requirement:
In addition to meeting the qualification requirements, all candidates must have the following educational requirements:Degree:
accounting, auditing; or a degree including auditing courses in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law.- OR•Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge.
