Job Description
Responsibilities - What you'll do Acquire knowledge of audit processes and resources (desk reference manual, workpaper templates, audit program, audit objectives, etc.); Gather audit evidence by obtaining copies of documents, reports, and ledgers as well as interviewing auditee personnel; Prepare audit workpapers by updating Word and Excel documents based on information acquired and cross-referencing to the auditee-supplied documentation; Verify the accuracy and completeness of the auditee-supplied documentation; Obtain an understanding of, and evaluate, internal controls that are significant to the audit objectives; Review and maintain working knowledge of contracts, state statutes, and policies and procedures that are significant to the audit objectives; Identify possible reportable problems or deficiencies; Conduct meetings with the auditee; Assist in drafting the audit report to include observations, findings, and recommendations; Communicate questions and concerns to supervisor who can assist; Respond to supervisor feedback (review notes) and questions on completed workpapers and drafted audit reports; Conduct reconciliations and billing verifications each month. Monitor the progress of assigned tasks to keep supervisor informed of delays and potential problems; Complete all training required by the department and obtain Continuing Professional Education (CPE) hours as required by Government Auditing Standards; and Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications:
Five or more years of professional or technical experience in auditing, accounting, bookkeeping, business, or in a closely related area, and possession of a valid vehicle operator's license. (Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university, that include credit hours in accounting, finance, business administration, or similar field, may substitute for up to four years of the listed experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year - a minimum of one year of experience is required)Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
Working knowledge of Excel, Word and other Microsoft Office applications; Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally; Willingness to learn and retain auditing standards and procedures; Ability to work within a time budget and deadlines; and Ability to read, comprehend, and analyze financial and other information. Knowledge and understanding of the Missouri Department of Corrections; Some or all of the audit process, including audit planning, reviewing internal controls, following an audit program, interviewing auditee staff, creating and completing audit workpapers, selecting samples and performing tests of controls, the supervisory review process, identifying audit concerns, drafting audit findings, and assisting in the preparation of an audit report; How to function as part of a team while also working independently to review and analyze information to meet audit objectives and gain an understanding of auditee procedures; and How to develop and maintain positive and appropriate professional relationships with fellow staff. Job Details - More reasons to love this position Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive: A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center). A $0.75 per hour maximum security stipend if you work full-time at a qualifying facility. A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.
