Job Description

The Teachers' Retirement System (TRS), a large public pension fund located in the financial district in NYC seeks an intern who will work in the Internal Audit Department for a 10 week summer internship program. Our intern program provides students with an opportunity to learn about the Internal Audit function at TRS.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work with Internal Audit colleagues to understand the Internal Audit processes, IIA Standards, business risks and continuously improve the department and achieve department goals;
  • Contribute ideas to continuously improve audit methodology and procedures, including the usage of data analysis/technology to improve effectiveness and efficiency of audit procedures and increase value to the stakeholders;
  • Shadow and assist auditors within the Internal Audit Department; and
  • Participate in other internal audit assignments as needed.
SUMMER COLLEGE INTERN
  • 10234 Minimum Qualifications As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE:
Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June
  • August each year.

  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to identify, learn, understand, and implement new concepts and frameworks

Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook Additional Requirements:
  • Must have a working desktop/laptop with updated anti-virus & internet security software
  • Must have either a smart phone with a working camera or webcam on desktop/laptop
  • Must have access to a reliable internet connection
  • Quiet working area away from distractions Residency Requirement New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
