Job Description
Inpatient Coding Auditor The Inpatient Coding Auditor performs detailed audits of inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory surgery, and observation encounters to ensure accurate coding, appropriate reimbursement, and compliance with federal and state regulations. This role serves as a subject matter expert in ICD‑10‑CM, ICD‑10‑PCS, and CPT‑4 coding and supports quality, education, and compliance initiatives. Key Responsibilities Audit ICD‑10‑CM/PCS and CPT‑4 codes for inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory surgery, and observation encounters. Audit complex inpatient cases (trauma, neurology, rehab, critical care) to ensure accurate APR‑DRG, SOI/ROM, and POA assignment. Serve as a coding SME; collaborate with providers, CDI, and clinical staff on documentation and coding issues. Monitor and report coder accuracy and productivity; conduct focused audits as needed. Assist with coding queries and collaborate with CDI on quality indicators (PPCs, PQIs). Communicate coding issues to leadership and comply with AHIMA ethical and compliance standards. Qualifications Must work EST or CST hours (no CA, HI, or AK). High School Diploma required; Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred. Formal ICD‑10‑CM, ICD‑10‑PCS, and CPT‑4 training. 2+ years ICD‑10 inpatient coding at a Level 1 Trauma hospital OR 4+ years inpatient hospital coding. 2-3 years outpatient/ambulatory coding experience. Required certification (one): CCS, RHIT, RHIA, or CIC . Must provide own equipment. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $40.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
