Join the Department of Health & Welfare's Internal Audit unit with the Division of Management Services as an Internal Auditor —a dynamic role where your analytical skills, curiosity, and commitment to accountability help strengthen programs that serve Idahoans every day. In this role, you'll dive into financial, operational, and compliance reviews that strengthen internal controls, support leadership decision making and help ensure DHW programs operate with transparency and integrity. You will work across divisions to assess risks, analyze data, develop recommendations, and contribute to program improvements. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Draft, distribute, and analyze the annual Risk Assessment Survey under supervisor guidance. Conduct financial, operational, and compliance audit fieldwork, including scoping, audit program drafting, sampling, and documentation. Prepare workpapers, analyze quantitative and qualitative data, and assess compliance with state and federal requirements. Provide written reports, presentations, and dashboards to communicate audit results to leadership. Perform follow-up reviews to ensure completion of Management Action Plans. Assist external partners such as Legislative Services Office and Office of Program Evaluations during audits, evaluations, and follow-up reviews. Support the annual Internal Controls Attestation process. Participate in Continuous Audit Planning by collaborating with internal stakeholders and monitoring program changes. Contribute to department initiatives and non-audit projects as assigned. Stay current on internal audit best practices and professional standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Typically gained by completion of at least two upper-division business management courses; OR at least one year of work experience with responsibility for all essential elements of management (planning, organizing, leading, and controlling). Experience must have included analyzing management problems and recommending solutions. Problems should be of consequence involving organizational design, turnover, morale problems, workload restrictions, unusual incidence of grievances, etc. This could be as a supervisor/manager or as a management consultant/analyst. Experience preparing oral and written reports of study findings and recommendations. Typically gained by at least six months experience preparing oral and written reports of study findings and making recommendations. Some knowledge of statistical analysis techniques. Typically gained by completion of college-level statistics coursework; OR 20 hours of seminars/training covering statistical analysis techniques including measures of central tendency, standard deviation, quartile deviation theory, and techniques; and some work experience requiring practical application of statistical analyses. Good knowledge of management practices and organizational design. Typically gained by completion of at least two upper-division business management courses; OR at least one year of work experience with responsibility for all essential elements of management (planning, organizing, leading, and controlling). Experience must have included analyzing management problems and recommending solutions. Problems should be of consequence involving organizational design, turnover, morale problems, workload restrictions, unusual incidence of grievances, etc. This could be as a supervisor/manager or as a management consultant/analyst. Good knowledge of methods of information collection. Typically gained by completion of related college level coursework (Intro to Management Information Systems; Statistical Techniques I, II; Research Methods; and/or Advanced Business Statistics); OR approximately six months of experience designing data collecting devices (questionnaires, work-flow analyses, survey, DP output) and/or evaluation effectiveness and redesigning for greater effectiveness; OR a combination of coursework and experience using various methods of information collection. Below is preferred experience. It is not required for the position but applicants with this experience may receive consideration over other applicants. Knowledge of auditing principles, practices, and professional standards. Typically gained by at least one year of experience performing audits, internal reviews, financial examinations, or coursework in accounting, auditing, or related subjects. Experience with data analysis, statistics, or audit support technology tools. Typically gained by at least one year of experience using data analysis or audit‑support tools (such as Excel, Power BI, SQL, or statistical software), or by completing college‑level coursework in statistics, data analytics, or information systems. Skill in drafting audit programs, reports, or analytical summaries. Typically gained by at least one year of experience preparing audit documentation, reports, summaries, or other analytical written materials. Ability to communicate complex issues clearly with internal and external partners. Typically gained by at least one year of professional experience explaining technical, analytical, or regulatory information to coworkers, managers, or external stakeholders. Familiarity with state or federal regulatory compliance environments. Typically gained by at least one year of experience working in a regulated environment, conducting compliance reviews, or applying state/federal laws, rules, or policies in a work setting.
