About the Role Strauss & Associates is growing its Nonprofit practice and is seeking a Senior Associate to serve as a cornerstone of that effort. This is primarily a nonprofit-focused position — the ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with nonprofit audit engagements and a solid understanding of nonprofit accounting and compliance requirements. Beyond the nonprofit practice, this role may also involve work across community associations, small business tax, and individual tax, providing variety and the opportunity to develop a well-rounded skill set. Key Responsibilities Nonprofit Practice — Primary Focus Lead audit and review engagements for nonprofit organizations, including planning, fieldwork, and financial statement preparation Prepare and review Form 990 and other nonprofit-specific tax filings, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance Serve as a trusted day-to-day contact for nonprofit clients, guiding them through audit processes and compliance requirements Research and communicate technical accounting issues related to nonprofit standards Assist in developing and maintaining client relationships within the nonprofit sector Additional Practice Areas Support audit and tax engagements for community associations Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns for small businesses and individuals Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field 2-5 years of public accounting experience Meaningful experience with nonprofit audit engagements is a core requirement for this role Working knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards (ASC 958) and Form 990 preparation Strong GAAP foundation and audit methodology skills Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex topics clearly to clients Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing deadlines with a high degree of accuracy Preferred Experience with community association or small business tax engagements CPA license or active CPA candidate (not required; licensure support provided) Familiarity with Engagement Manager and Lacerte software solutions What We Offer Competitive salary: $65,000-$95,000 commensurate with experience Comprehensive benefits package including health insurance and medical reimbursement plans Paid time off and firm holidays CPA exam support and continuing professional education (CPE) assistance Direct mentorship and a clear path for advancement within the firm A collaborative team environment where nonprofit expertise is genuinely valued Primarily in-office culture with remote flexibility when needed How to Apply Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter.
