Job Description
The Claims Agent II is responsible for reviewing, evaluating, and resolving general liability, vehicle damage and property claims presented against WSSC Water. Responsibilities include evaluating contents and structural damages, interacting with cleaning companies and inspectors, evaluating the actual cash value of losses, drafting authority memoranda, and negotiating settlements. Essential Functions Secures statements (recorded and written) from claimants, employees, witnesses, etc. Establishes reserves on claim files Reviews and evaluates property damage and auto damage estimates Advises claimants of the position of their claims Applies depreciation to structural and personal content damages Pursues subrogation interests and salvage disposal Prepares reports regarding liability possible defenses, evaluations and settlement recommendations Prepares and sends settlement and denial letters to claimants Evaluates general liability settlement demands Negotiates settlements with claimants or attorneys Understands and applies Maryland Annotated Code Analyzes and resolves liability issues Prepares reports for Dispute Resolving Committee and testifies, if needed Interprets homeowners' policies Explains water/sewer endorsement Understands small dwelling repair estimates Maintains claims files with pertinent documentation Processes billed work (damage caused by others to WSSC Water lines and structures) Prepares payment requests Other Functions Performs other related duties, as assigned Work Environment And Physical Demands Worked is performed in a business casual office setting. Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Must be knowledgeable regarding investigative techniques, negligence and contract law, construction costs/methods Familiarity with negotiating techniques, WSSC Water Code Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; familiarity with PC operations Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills Ability to build rapport with a diverse public Minimum Education, Experience Requirements High School diploma (or equivalent) 4 + years' experience adjusting property or vehicle damage claims
