Job Description

About Us We are a well-established, accredited engineering and materials testing firm headquartered in Southern Colorado. We specialize in geotechnical engineering, civil/water engineering, construction materials testing (CMT), and special inspections, serving clients across multiple western states. We are expanding into the Four Corners region and seeking a driven individual to lead this growth. The Opportunity We're opening a new office in the Durango / Four Corners area and looking for a player-coach — someone who can be the local face of our firm while our engineering and lab resources provide full support from headquarters. This is a ground-floor leadership opportunity with real ownership potential for the right person. You won't just manage — you'll build. Build relationships, build a pipeline, build a team over time. You'll have the autonomy of running your own shop with the backing of an established, accredited firm. What You'll Do Business Development & Client Relations (40%)
  • Identify and pursue CMT, special inspection, geotech, and civil engineering opportunities across La Plata, Montezuma, San Juan, Archuleta, and Dolores counties in Colorado, and San Juan County, New Mexico (Farmington, Bloomfield, Aztec)
  • Build relationships with municipalities, state DOTs, tribal entities, mine operators, developers, and general contractors across the Four Corners region
  • Build relationships with New Mexico clients and agencies including municipalities, NMDOT, Navajo Nation, and oil & gas / mining operators in the San Juan Basin
  • Track RFPs/RFQs from BidNet, SAM.gov, and local agencies; coordinate proposal responses with headquarters
  • Represent the firm at local industry events, chamber of commerce meetings, and professional associations Field Coordination & Project Support (30%)
  • Schedule and coordinate CMT/SI field work — dispatching headquarters-based crews and/or local subcontractors
  • Serve as on-site point of contact for active projects; facilitate communication between field techs, clients, and the project engineer
  • Assist with field logistics: equipment staging, sample transport to the headquarters lab, utility locates, site access
  • If you hold ACI, ICC, WAQTC, or other inspection certifications — even better. You may perform inspections directly Office & Operations Management (20%)
  • Establish and manage a local office presence (co-working or flex space initially, scaling as revenue grows)
  • Manage local vendor relationships, subcontractor agreements, and supply chain logistics
  • Track project budgets, schedules, and deliverables in coordination with the project engineer
  • Support invoicing, timesheet tracking, and project close-out documentation Team Building & Growth (10%)
  • As work volume increases, help recruit and onboard local field technicians
  • Mentor and train local staff on company SOPs, safety protocols, and quality standards
  • Contribute to the long-term strategic plan for the Four Corners market What We're Looking For Must-Haves
  • 5+ years in the A/E/C industry (engineering firm, general contractor, construction management, or related)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop client relationships and win work
  • Strong organizational skills — you'll be managing multiple priorities semi-independently
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel throughout the Four Corners region
  • Familiarity with Colorado and/or New Mexico construction/engineering market (CDOT, NMDOT, municipal, mining, oil & gas, or energy sectors preferred) Strong Preferences
  • Existing network of contacts in the Durango / Farmington / Four Corners area
  • ACI Field Grade I, ICC Special Inspector, WAQTC, or similar field certifications
  • Experience with construction materials testing or special inspections
  • Construction management degree, business degree, or equivalent industry experience
  • Familiarity with proposal writing and QBS (Qualifications-Based Selection) processes Nice-to-Haves
  • EIT or PE license (not required, but opens up additional responsibilities)
  • Experience with AutoCAD/Civil 3D, HEC-HMS, or similar design tools
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) What We Offer
  • Competitive salary: $65,000-$90,000 depending on experience and certifications
  • Performance bonus tied to office revenue growth
  • Equity/profit-sharing path — this isn't just a job, it's a potential partnership
  • Autonomy — run your own office, build your own team, make local decisions
  • Full backing from an accredited lab, drill rig, and experienced PE staff at headquarters
Benefits:
Health, dental, vision, paid time off, continuing education support
