The Branch Manager works alongside Universal Bankers on the frontline in both the Viroqua and Viola locations, providing real-time coaching and ensuring a smooth day-to-day workflow. This role oversees frontline staff, including performance management and development, in partnership with Human Resources when needed. Additionally, the Branch Manager supports community involvement, serves as the resolution point for customer matters, and collaborates across departments to foster a positive and consistent branch environment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
People LeadershipStaffing Execution:
Coaches and develops employees on the frontline, including career development plans. Sets goals and evaluates individual performance of direct reports. Run weekly check-ins to address barriers, coverage needs, and service expectations. Partner with Human Resources on employee relations, culture, recruiting and staffing, leave and accommodation compliance, and related matters. Own frontline scheduling, including Saturday rotation planning and adjustments for coverage gaps. Provide branch-wide visibility on time off requests to support timely scheduling decisions and reduce last-minute coverage risk, ensuring an Officer is present in the Lobby at all times as appropriate.
Branch Operations, ControlsFacilities:
This role provides direct operational ownership for the branch environment and serves as a key resource to maintain continuity, readiness, and service standards across both locations.
Responsibilities include:
Maintain proficiency in teller functions as a working manager, regularly working on the frontline during normal operations, peak periods, or staffing shortages. Own or coordinate cash ordering activities aligned to operational guidelines and anticipated branch needs. Manage supply ordering for the branch. Oversee building maintenance, service needs, and vendor contracts to ensure safe, functional facilities. Serve as the branch point of contact for security coordination, including Security Officer responsibilities as confirmed by program requirements.
Communication, Cross Department CoordinationOutreach:
Partner closely with personal banking, universal banking, and lending leadership to align branch execution with customer and sales priorities. Address customer concerns promptly and professionally, resolving issues while maintaining a positive client experience. Act as liaison for the branch in department weekly meetings, ensuring timely communication to and from the frontline and follow-through on action items. Coordinate community outreach by serving as the volunteer scheduler for participation planning, sign-ups, and internal communications. Maintain a planned on-site presence in Viola one to two times per week to support staffing, service standards, and local operational needs. Develop capability to serve as back-up personal banker or retail lender, as appropriate, to provide resiliency during absences and support customer needs. What We're Looking For:
High school diploma or GED. 2+ years of retail banking experience. Banking, leadership, or business-related training. Demonstrated experience in frontline operations, customer service, and staff coordination; leadership experience preferred. Prior experience developing or coaching a team is a plus.
