Job Description
The Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Account Clerk. This position is classified as full-time.
Expected Hire Pay Scale:
Account Clerk:
$1,725.81 - $1,890.166 To perform complex accounting system work in the preparation, maintenance and review of Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority financial transactions and records; and provide guidance to Refuse Site Attendants in a lead person capacity. This position is primarily responsible for the steady flow of cash between the Gate and Authority accounts. This is a responsible technical and clerical position that requires the ability and experience to perform a variety of complex duties under limited direction. This classification is non-exempt from the overtime provisions of the FLSA.Essential job duties may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. The list that follows is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbents(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks. Primary person responsible for verifying and balancing all daily transactions, receipts, cash, checks, card payments, and account charges for all Authority-managed facilities. Primary person responsible for tracking and maintaining safe balances and related accounting records. Primary person responsible for making regular deposits to Authority accounts. Primary person responsible for preparing starting cash for facility tills with appropriate change available prior to daily operations at each Authority-managed facility. Primary person responsible for assisting and directing office customers in person, over the telephone, and via email. Updates customer account information. Provides feedback and training to Refuse Site Attendants as needed with respect to customer transactions, closing procedures, balancing and related documentation. Operates various bookkeeping machines, calculators, and/or data processing equipment during the performance of assigned duties. Calculates various fees, costs, interests, etc. according to established procedures. Acts as an information source regarding inquiries about unit and/or Authority policies and procedures pertaining to account/fiscal operations. Assists and acts as needed by Authority as competent support to, or temporary back-up in place of, Office & Gate Manager. Responsibilities include preparing claims, budget and interdepartmental transfers; preparing and revising staffing schedules; and performing all daily accounting and billing functions so as to prevent disruptions of daily operations. Serves as Refuse Site Attendant as needed. Performs assigned stand-by duties on weekends and as needed, assisting staff, rescheduling or covering shifts. Assists with maintenance duties at all Authority properties. Performs related duties as required. Graduation from high school or equivalent. Cash handling experience totaling at least two (2) years in prior workplace(s). Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's License. One (1) year of experience as Refuse Site Attendant is highly desirable.Requires:
Knowledge of modern office methods, practices, and terminology. Knowledge of the principles and practices of governmental accounts maintenance and operations. Knowledge of relevant statutes and regulations governing the operation of the Authority. Ability to effectively analyze specific problems and situations and apply appropriate procedures. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, other departments, outside agencies, and the general public. Ability to maintain complex financial records and to prepare special financial reports and statements. Ability to perform mathematical calculations rapidly and accurately. Ability to draft routine business communications. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
