DEFINITION
Under general direction of the Principle Accountant, the manager of the Fiscal Accounting Department, the Account Clerk performs a variety of accounting work; and performs related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Incumbents in the Account Clerk series perform above average financial and statistical recordkeeping/bookkeeping tasks involving the use of independent judgement, accuracy, and the ability to meet deadlines; general clerical work, however, the majority of time is involved with accounting tasks.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Typical tasks:
Maintains departmental appropriation, expenditure and revenue records, including monitoring budget units, contracts and accounts, checking and balancing records for arithmetic errors, completeness of budget codes and preparing forms to transfer funds; Posts financial transactions including distributing costs of payments to various accounts; posting to accounts, journals, and ledgers; and making adjustments to accounts; Review of accounts for proper payments, charges, and statement detail; make adjustments to accounts and balances; resolving or reconciling discrepancies between payments, receipts or accounts; Audits charges including checking and verifying codes and fees for conformity to laws, rules, or regulations; Prepares or assists in preparing reports including preparation of financial reports, statements, and periodic reports on condition of appropriation, accrual, receipts, contracts, demands payable and accounts receivable; and completes various forms and documents; Obtains information from the public including vendors and other departments as well as provides information concerning accounts, contracts, budgets and financial transactions; Determines which account to credit with unidentified payment, determines validity of or liability for bills or charges, processes refunds on overpayments, assists in preparing information for budget, and prepares transfer of funds; and Perform other duties as assigned.

Accounting principles, practices and methods; Accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash handling and purchasing; Court policies and procedures; pertinent laws, rules, and goals; awareness of the objectives of the Court; Effective written communication, including correct grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure; and Modern office practices and procedures and filing systems; computer applications including Excel, Word, Outlook. Skill and Ability to : Maintain regular and consistent work hours; Operates standard office equipment including operation of a 10-key, computer-related equipment, multi-line telephone system, and other equipment;
