Your work ensures financial data is accurate, timely, and compliant, supporting student activities, school operations, and district accountability. Through careful attention to detail and consistent follow-through, you help ensure funds are tracked properly and used to support student learning and programs. Who you are:
You are a detail-oriented and dependable professional who enjoys working with numbers, data, and structured processes. You have an entry level knowledge of excel functions and data entry. You are comfortable learning new systems, following established procedures, and managing multiple tasks. You communicate clearly, maintain confidentiality, and understand the importance of accuracy in financial work. You are collaborative, organized, and eager to grow your accounting skills in a school-based environment. As an Accounting Clerk, you will be responsible for (but not limited to): Collecting, entering, and managing accounting data using district-supported systems. Processing invoices and supporting basic financial transactions. Assisting with analyses, audits, and reports to meet compliance requirements. Maintaining budgets and ledgers for student activities and programs, as applicable. Supporting the collection, storage, and deposit of funds when assigned. Providing clerical and office support related to accounting functions. Communicating clearly and professionally with staff, students, and stakeholders. Ensuring actions align with district policies and applicable regulations. Supporting school and district financial operations through accurate, timely work. What you need for this position: Completion of 12th grade or equivalent Resume and letter of introduction outlining your desire and qualifications for this position Roles currently available: Fiscal Services Department SB 848 Child Safety & Employment Disclosure Requirement Effective January 1, 2026, in accordance with California Senate Bill 848 (School Employee Misconduct/Child Abuse Prevention Act), applicants for employment with San José Unified are subject to enhanced child safety, training, and employment disclosure requirements. Under SB 848, schools are required to strengthen background vetting procedures and obtain employment history information related to allegations of egregious misconduct involving students. Former employers may be contacted to release records regarding substantiated findings of misconduct as permitted by law. Failure to provide complete and accurate information regarding prior educational employment or relevant misconduct findings may result in disqualification from the hiring process or withdrawal of an offer of employment. SB 848 also expands mandated reporter requirements and requires annual child abuse prevention training for employees and certain volunteers by July 1, 2026. All employees must comply with district-adopted child safety policies, including procedures for supervising and protecting students.
