Job Description

Overview Join our dynamic finance team as an Assistant Bookkeeper and become a vital contributor to maintaining accurate financial records and supporting our accounting operations. This energetic role offers the opportunity to develop your expertise in various accounting software and financial concepts while working in a collaborative environment. You will assist with day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and help streamline financial processes to support organizational growth. Responsibilities Assist in maintaining accurate general ledger accounts through data entry, account analysis, and reconciliation of accounts such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank statements. Prepare and record journal entries, ensuring proper debits and credits in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). Conduct balance sheet reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations to verify the accuracy of financial data. Support payroll processing, tax filings, and governmental accounting requirements as needed. Utilize accounting software including QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, Quicken, and other financial tools to input transactions and generate reports. Assist with month-end closing procedures, including account analysis and financial report writing. Perform bank reconciliations and account reconciliation tasks to ensure consistency across financial statements. Qualifications Proven experience with bookkeeping or accounting roles, preferably within public or non-profit accounting environments. Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, Quicken, or similar platforms. Strong understanding of financial concepts including double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, journal entries, and general ledger accounting. Knowledge of GAAP standards and governmental or non-profit accounting practices is a plus. Ability to perform bank reconciliations, account reconciliation, and balance sheet reconciliation accurately. Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical skills for account analysis and account reconciliation tasks. Proficiency in 10-key typing for data entry accuracy; experience with budgeting and technical accounting is advantageous.
