Part-time, At-Will SALARY:
$30.00 to $33.00 per hour, depending on qualifications, experience, and Park District policy. SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Director of Operations or designee, the Accounting Specialist is responsible for performing professional accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, financial reporting, and related fiscal support functions. This position plays a critical role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting internal controls, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting sound financial stewardship of District resources.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, deposits, invoices, and related transactions. Maintain accurate general ledger records and supporting documentation. Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, payroll records, and monthly financial activity. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports as assigned. Assist in the development, tracking, and monitoring of annual budgets. Support annual audit preparation and provide requested schedules and documentation. Prepare payroll tax filings, required government reports, and related compliance documentation. Monitor cash flow and identify financial variances or concerns. Maintain organized fiscal files in accordance with retention requirements. Protect confidential payroll, employee, vendor, and financial information. Recommend improvements to accounting systems, controls, and efficiency. Coordinate professionally with staff, vendors, auditors, banks, and outside agencies. Operate accounting software, payroll systems, spreadsheets, and related systems. Adheres to internal control procedures and segregation of duties; no employee may independently authorize and process transactions outside delegated authority. Perform other duties as assigned. Maintain accurate records of District fixed assets, capital equipment, donated property, and other significant assets, including acquisition date, cost or estimated value, funding source, location, and disposition status. Coordinate periodic physical inventory reviews of District equipment, furniture, technology, and other assets, and report discrepancies. Assist with depreciation schedules, insurance documentation, grant-funded asset tracking, and replacement planning as applicable.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred. 4-6 years of accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, or governmental finance experience preferred. Knowledge of GAAP principles and basic fund/governmental accounting preferred. Payroll tax and reporting experience required. Strong Excel and accounting software skills (QuickBooks or similar). High attention to detail and accuracy. Strong ethics, confidentiality, and integrity. Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Frequently required to sit, stand, and walk. Frequently required to use hands and fingers to operate a computer and office equipment. Required to communicate effectively, including talking and hearing. Occasionally required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 25 pounds. Work is primarily performed in an indoor office environment with minimal exposure to adverse weather conditions.
