Department of Accounting, Instructor / Assistant Professor - Teaching (Non-Tenure Track) Wayne State University is searching for an experiencedDepartment of Accounting, Instructor / Assistant Professor - Teaching (Non-Tenure Track)at its Detroit campus location. Essential functions (job duties): The Department of Accounting at Wayne State University's Mike Ilitch School of Business is seeking to fill a non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor - Teaching for Fall 2026. Teach 4 (per semester) undergraduate/graduate courses Manage assessment and Student progress with a Learning Management System (Canvas). Maintain and adapt curriculum that is current, effective, and appropriate to course and program competencies. Instruct students in a classroom, online, and/or hybrid setting. The selected candidate is also expected to be an actively engaged member of the Mike Ilitch School of Business community.
Qualifications:
Desirable education and experience: Those with a PhD in Accounting will be considered for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor - Teaching. Those with another graduate degree will be considered at the rank of Instructor-Teaching. A CPA or other relevant professional certification is highly desirable. A minimum of three years of accounting teaching experience, including at the graduate level, is required. Candidates should demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, along with a clear commitment to supporting student learning and development. Expected duties and responsibilities Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate accounting courses, maintaining faculty qualifications in accordance with AACSB standards, and actively participating in teaching-focused service. Flexibility in teaching areas, including financial, managerial, and taxation fields, with in-person and online teaching formats. The experience of teaching governmental and non-profit accounting is highly preferable. Management of learning activities at the college level and contribution to initiatives that support the program's growth and mission. Mentoring students is also an essential component of the role.
