$50,000 - $70,000 annually, depending on experience Crystal HeatingCooling, an employee-owned HVAC leader serving the Greater St. Louis area since 1965, is seeking a Payroll Specialist / Staff Accountant to join our team. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys both payroll and general accounting responsibilities. You will play a key role in ensuring accurate payroll processing, supporting financial reporting, and maintaining compliance within a service and construction-based environment. Working closely with the Accounting Director, you will handle certified payroll, union reporting, and general ledger support while helping maintain the financial integrity of the organization. You will be responsible for maintaining payroll accuracy, supporting general ledger activities, and assisting with financial documentation and reporting while ensuring compliance with labor regulations and internal controls. Key Responsibilities Process weekly payroll, including timekeeping review, payroll reconciliation, and PTO tracking Prepare certified payroll, prevailing wage reports, and union fringe benefit reporting in compliance with requirements Support general ledger activities, including payroll entries, labor allocations, and account reconciliations Assist with month-end close, financial reporting preparation, and audit support Maintain payroll and accounting records related to employee changes, compliance, and reporting requirements Manage payroll-related items such as garnishments, unemployment claims, and benefits coordination Track and maintain company licenses, certifications, and assist with insurance and compliance documentation What You Bring Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, payroll processing, or financial administration Strong understanding of payroll accounting, payroll compliance, and financial recordkeeping Experience with certified payroll, prevailing wage, or union payroll environments preferred Proficiency with accounting software, preferably QuickBooks, and strong Excel skills Familiarity with general ledger processes, reconciliations, and financial reporting Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills Ability to manage confidential financial and employee information with discretion Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent experience preferred If you are a detail-oriented accounting professional who values accuracy, accountability, and teamwork, this is an opportunity to build a long-term career with a stable, employee-owned company that invests in its people.
