OVERVIEW
The Yancey County Humane Society is a growing, vital non-profit organization in Yancey County that seeks a reliable, experienced bookkeeper proficient in QuickBooks Online. This is an onsite position. The successful applicant will assume day to day responsibility for the accounting functions of the organization and its Shelter, Spay & Neuter Clinic and Barkin Basement Resale Store operations. The ideal candidate will be proactive, reliable, detail-oriented, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills. This position offers the opportunity to contribute significantly to the organization's ability to serve the Yancey County area residents and their pets through precise bookkeeping and excellent communication.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Enter and track accounts receivable and accounts payable. Prepare and record all deposits. Travel to the bank as needed. Pay bills by credit card and by printing checks. Prepare monthly reconciliations and manage bank and credit card accounts. Allocate expenses among departments and prepare departmental reports. Directly communicate variances and any item of concern to Director and Treasurer Assist Treasurer with Budget preparation. Prepare reports as requested by the Director and the Treasurer, and monthly reports for distribution at the Board of Directors meeting. Prepare reports to assist in the preparation of the annual Form 990 and provide reports as needed for financial statements prepared outside the organization. Manage accounting for grant reporting. File monthly Sales & Use tax return. Collect employee hours using time tracking software and enter hours for payroll processing weekly. Handle administrative payroll tasks including time tracking, employee onboarding, maintaining employee records, and Worker's Compensation claims. Collect and maintain vendor W-9 forms and employment forms for employees. Mange and process insurance and unemployment claims. Assist Executive Director with projects as needed.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
At least 2 years of bookkeeping experience using QuickBooks Online. Sales tax return experience a plus. Strong computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft programs. Experience with POS systems and integrating application in QuickBooks Online a plus. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, including in report form. Ability to keep accounting and payroll matters strictly confidential. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and customer service skills. Excellent organizational skills with ability to multitask effectively. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a busy office environment. Ability to deal with the public in an effective and courteous manner. Must love animals.Pay:
