Agency Safety Division 70000075 Dept of Public Safety Job Classification Title Accounting Technician I (S) Position Number 65035090 Grade NC05 About Us The Department of Public Safety's mission is to safeguard and preserve the lives and property of the people of North Carolina through preparation, prevention, and protection with integrity and honor. Our agency houses many public safety divisions, including Emergency Management, Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, Alcohol Law Enforcement, Samarcand Training Academy, and the North Carolina National Guard. Description of Work Start your journey towards success! We are currently accepting applications for an Accounting Technician I at the Department of Public Safety ABC Commission. This role will receive the daily cash report and deposit slip of monies deposited and is responsible for verifying said reports for accuracy, creating deposit recap for funds to be entered into a cash management system. Additional Duties can include but are not limited to: Process a wide range of financial transactions—including payments to contractors and departmental vendors—using the North Carolina Financial System (NCFS) Audit invoices and related purchase documentation to verify compliance with state policies and confirm that all required backup materials are complete and accurate. Act as a liaison between facilities, internal teams, and vendors to resolve billing discrepancies, clarify charges, and obtain missing information necessary for payment processing. Review and reconcile vendor statements, investigating discrepancies through both manual analysis and financial system tools to maintain accurate and up-to-date account records. Making bank deposits. The Alcoholic Beverage Control Act approved by the General Assembly of 1937 provided for the establishment of a State Board of Control consisting of a Chairman and two associate members appointed by the Governor. The State Board of Control is today known as the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission (ABC Commission) and has all the powers and authority contained in General Statute 18B-203. The overall objective of the Commission is to provide uniform control over the sale, purchase, transportation, manufacture, advertising, consumption and possession of alcoholic beverages in the State. In addition to administering the laws established by the General Assembly, the Commission has the authority to adopt, amend, and repeal rules to carry out its objective.
Examples of duties include the:
Issuing all alcohol permits for commercial and retail activity. Prosecuting and imposing of sanctions against permit holders that violate ABC laws and Commission rules. Approving all alcoholic beverages products to be sold in the state and overseeing county and municipal ABC Boards in the state. The ABC Commission is a self-supported agency with a special operating fund that was created in 1982 for the purpose of carrying out its mission. The Commission supports the State's General Fund with deposits from collected application fees. A valid NC driver's license is required. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences . Job Description Salary Recruitment Range (NC05): $33,902.00 - $45,500.00 This is a full-time position (40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm) with State Benefits . to qualify for this position. Management Preferences, including Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs), are not required but may be used to determine the pool of most qualified applicants. Managers may also choose to interview/select applicants who demonstrate Management Preferences.
Management Preferences :
Experience working with the North Carolina Financial System (NCFS). Experience resolving discrepancies in accounting transactions. Experience using a variety of technology such as financial systems and/or software packages to create and maintain data. Experience presenting financial information clearly and concisely in oral and written form. The NC Dept. of Public Safety must adhere to the US Dept. of Justice Final Rule on the "National Standards to Prevent, Detect, and Respond to Prison Rape."
