About Us Forest Grove United Church of Christ is a welcoming, community-focused nonprofit church. We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented bookkeeper to maintain accurate financial records, support timely payroll and vendor payments, and provide clear monthly reporting to church leadership. Position Overview This contractor role owns day-to-day bookkeeping for multiple funds/accounts, including deposits, accounts payable, payroll processing, and monthly close/reporting. You'll work independently while partnering with the Treasurer, finance team, and church staff to ensure accurate records, appropriate internal controls, and responsive support for routine financial questions. Qualifications 2+ years of bookkeeping experience (nonprofit or small-business experience strongly valued) Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks preferred; comparable systems considered) Payroll processing experience, including year-end forms (W-2/1099) Strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and follow-through Ability to communicate clearly with staff and volunteers; responsive and service-oriented Key Responsibilities Maintain accurate and complete records of all church financial activity (income, expenses, designated funds) Record and deposit weekly income (typically Sundays) and ensure supporting documentation is retained Process accounts payable (cash, check, ACH, and credit card) and track vendor/contractor payments Process payroll twice per month for staff and contractors; maintain payroll records Prepare or coordinate year-end tax forms (W-2 and 1099) and support audit/review requests as needed Complete monthly close and prepare financial reports for leadership (e.g., budget vs. actuals, fund balances) Support the Treasurer/finance team with routine financial questions and process improvement
Schedule Weekly:
1-2 hours on Sundays (on-site) for income processing/deposit preparationMonthly:
additional flexible hours for reconciliations, close, and reportingMeetings:
