Accounts Payable Specialist

We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to join a plastics manufacturing organization in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on a Contract basis. This role is ideal for someone who is confident managing day-to-day payables while supporting core accounting operations with accuracy and consistency. The position will play an important part in maintaining reliable financial records, resolving discrepancies, and supporting a well-controlled accounting environment.

Responsibilities:

Process vendor invoices, assign accurate account coding, and ensure payments are completed in accordance with established timelines. Manage accounts payable activities from invoice review through ACH transactions and check runs, maintaining complete and organized documentation. Record financial activity through journal entries and help keep the general ledger current and accurate. Complete bank reconciliations and investigate variances to confirm balances and resolve outstanding items promptly. Analyze numerical inconsistencies, identify root causes, and apply corrections to preserve data accuracy. Support strong internal accounting procedures by following controls and recommending practical improvements where needed. Use QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel to track transactions, prepare records, and assist with routine accounting tasks. Contribute to additional accounting and administrative duties as business needs require. Hands-on experience in accounts payable, including invoice coding, payment processing, and vendor transaction support. Working knowledge of general accounting principles, journal entries, and account reconciliation practices. Proficiency with QuickBooks Desktop or QuickBooks Enterprise, along with solid Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel. Experience handling ACH payments, check runs, and other standard disbursement methods. Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize financial information accurately and efficiently. Clear written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with internal teams and external vendors. Ability to identify discrepancies, research issues thoroughly, and implement accurate corrections.
