Primary Purpose:
The Assistant Principal of Instruction's primary responsibility is to support, via a leadership role, the school's instructional strategy and to ensure its successful execution. The AP of Instruction accepts responsibility for the achievement of the school's academic goals and assists the Principal, as directed, in the academic, administrative, and counseling activities of the school. Education/Certification Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred Texas principal, Texas administrator's certificate or comparable job-related training, preferred
Experience:
Three years teaching experience in education One year administrative experience in education (preferred)

Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness Ability to coordinate campus functions Ability to implement policy and procedures Ability to interpret data Ability to develop and lead professional learning opportunities Ability to provide teachers with instructional support and feedback Demonstrate a passion for and commitment to EPLA's mission and educational model Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills Preference(s): Bilingual (English and Spanish) Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to: Leadership The AP of Instruction coaches and manages instructional staff members at the school.

Creates a professional learning community in which teachers regularly collaborate to reflect on and refine curriculum and instruction at the school using achievement data, student work, and their own observations/experiences. Demonstrates the ability to effectively relate to and engage students in relationships in one-on-one, small group and large group settings. Ensures effective communication with families with respect to student academic performance, student conduct, school programs, and school performance. Instruction Demonstrates ability to provide instructional leadership informed by a nuanced understanding of EPLA best practices. Usage of the systemic coaching tool to track all coaching meetings, observations, and action steps. Demonstrates ability to provide teachers with specific, actionable, qualitative (i.e., narrative) and quantitative (i.e., rubric) feedback on their performance in all areas. Able to manage a data-driven instructional process that includes rigorous interim assessments that are effectively aligned with year-end assessments and college readiness. Able to align all other school leadership components to the data driven instructional process (professional development, curriculum development, teacher observation/supervision, etc. Work with teachers to create and refine EPLA curriculum documents (assessments, plans, data tracking), which correspond to college readiness standards, core instructional practices, and the benchmark assessment program Oversee teacher implementation of EPLA curriculum Observe and evaluate teachers in categories that correspond to EPLA instructional expectations Create, maintain, and update whole school, grade level, and teacher level student academic and assessment records and reports Maintain an awareness of how course content will prepare a student for the needs of a high school and college preparatory program Oversee required standardized testing and internal assessments Identify and arrange for staff development opportunities which relate to core instructional practices, standards based assessments, and content areas. Co-manage grade level chairs to ensure effective outcomes within content classes Systems-Management Able to implement systems that "sweat the small stuff," maximize the programmatic goals of the school, and are scalable as the school grows. Develop solutions to complex problems that involve multiple stakeholders and steps. Manage with fiscal responsibility - develops a disciplined planning process that identifies the school's highest-priorities. The Instructional Leader will be evaluated based on data-driven performance indicators including, but not limited to student attendance, measurable student learning gains on nationally-normed tests, internal benchmark assessments, and student retention and parent/student satisfaction. Assist teachers with setting up their grade reporting accounts Additional Duties Recruit and assist in the hiring of school faculty Work with EPLA Administrative Leadership Team to create network-wide standards, curriculum, and assessment documents Work with EPLA Administrative Leadership Team to develop and lead SOAR and year-long teacher professional development; create school-specific new and returning teacher professional development Develop and lead Instructional Leadership Development and Culture Leadership Development Additional duties as assigned.

Assigned classroom teachers.

Computer, copier, telephone, public address system, and other equipment applicable to position
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Works with frequent interruptions; maintains emotional control under stress. Lifts heavy objects (i.e. furniture) at times. May be required under specific circumstances to provide physical restraint of scholars in danger of causing harm to themselves or others. Conducts other duties as assigned.
