Job Description

The South Plains Association of Governments (SPAG) is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accountant to specialize in Grants & Financial Reporting to support the financial administration of federal, state, and local grant programs serving communities across the South Plains region. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the financial integrity and compliance of funding that supports public safety, aging services, transportation, housing initiatives, regional planning, and other programs that improve quality of life throughout the region. This position is ideal for a skilled professional with a passion for public service, a strong technical accounting foundation, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Specific tasks will include, but are not limited to:
  • Preparing and submitting grant reimbursement requests and funding drawdowns
  • Preparing required financial reports for federal, state, and local grants
  • Monitoring expenditures and revenues against approved grant budgets
  • Reviewing expenditures for compliance with grant requirements
  • Coordinating with Department Directors regarding budgets and reporting requirements
  • Supporting grant monitoring reviews, audits, and compliance activities The starting hourly range for this position is between $24.
04-$25.48 depending on experience and qualifications. This position will also have a fully paid benefits package which includes retirement, health & dental (starting day one), paid vacation and sick leave, and optional life insurance for the employee. Grant financial reporting & reimbursement requests Financial reporting & audit support Working with internal and/or external team members Assisting with finance department month-end close and program-specific financial analysis Maintaining financial records and supporting documentation General ledger reconciliation, journal entries and general accounting duties
Essential Job Functions:
This position manages financial reporting requirements for assigned grant portfolios and ensures timely, accurate, and compliant reimbursement, reporting, and grant administration activities. The position serves as the primary accounting contact for assigned grants, funding sources, departments, and programs. Assignments may be modified periodically to balance workload and organizational needs. About SPAG Finance Department The Finance Department is part of the South Plains Association of Governments which is a local regional governmental entity, also known as a regional planning commission with a diverse service area of 15 counties, 47 municipalities and various special districts. We are the pulse of our region addressing issues that cross city limits and county lines every single day. We manage the financial oversight and support for the SPAG departments that operate a variety of local, state and federal programs. Key Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred Minimum of two years of progressively responsible accounting experience Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems
