Accounting Specialist

We are looking for an Accounting Specialist to support core financial operations for a Contract position based in Alexandria, Virginia. This role will focus on maintaining accurate cash reporting, reconciling key transactions and ledger activity, and helping ensure the timely flow of daily accounting processes. The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail, sound judgment in handling financial data, and experience across a range of accounting functions.

Responsibilities:

Create and circulate daily reports covering cash positions and balance sheet activity to support financial visibility and decision-making. Review account activity each day and coordinate wire transfers as needed to keep settlement balances at appropriate levels. Handle the processing and reconciliation of MoneyGram-related transactions, ensuring records are complete and accurate. Perform detailed reconciliations for general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner. Record investment-related journal entries in partnership with accounting leadership and confirm proper posting to the ledger. Prepare departmental financial reporting packages and analyze variances to highlight notable changes or trends. Support ongoing accounting operations tied to accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and other routine financial activities. Experience in accounting operations with hands-on responsibility for reconciliations, reporting, and transactional processing. Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing functions, and core accounting procedures. Ability to reconcile account activity and general ledger balances with a high degree of accuracy. Familiarity with cash management processes, including monitoring balances and coordinating fund transfers. Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate variances and identify financial discrepancies. Proficiency in preparing journal entries and maintaining organized supporting documentation. Excellent attention to detail, time management, and communication skills in a deadline-driven environment.
