Job Description
Roanoke County Public Schools seeks applications from individuals interested in a Front Office/Bookkeeper position at an Elementary School beginning July 1, 2026. Current openings are at the following schools: Burlington Elementary School Fort Lewis Elementary School Green Valley Elementary School Masons Cove Elementary School Mt. Pleasant Elementary School These positions are a full-time position, 260-day contract, 8 hours per day eligible for benefits on the RCPS Pay Plan Grade 113. Interviews will begin immediately and the position will remain open until filled.
Position Description/Job Summary:
The Front Office/Bookkeeper is responsible for providing a variety of office assistance activities; ensuring the proper operation of the school; assisting with clerical and administrative matters; preparing and maintaining complex and confidential files; overseeing financial accounts and all tasks associated with those accounts.Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:
Complies with and promotes the accounting policies and procedures put forth in the Student Activity Fund Manual. Oversees the fiscal accounts of the school using the accounting system. Ensures receipts and disbursements are correctly input into online accounting software. Actively communicates with Principal about financial procedures/processes including weekly reports. Prepares for the annual audit with completed checklist, required documentation, delivery of audit records to designated location by due date, and upload of required reports to RCPS shared drive. Prepares the monthly bank reconciliation by established deadlines, including supporting documentation that agrees to the bank reconciliation. Collects and deposits money daily. Use the online payment portal to collect funds made with debit/credit cards. Administers the Purchasing program for the school, including but not limited to Sam's Club Members, Amazon Membership, County-Issued P-Cards. Prepare purchase requisitions and/or orders for approval. Creates and/or process invoices and reimbursement requests. Attends organizational office meetings. Attends bookkeeper professional development sessions provided by the Department of Finance to ensure up to date knowledge in activity fund accounting and software as well as an array of district wide RCPS procedures that impact the bookkeeping function in the schools. Assists with preparing field trips and fundraisers. Maintains records accurately and abides by the Library of Virginia Records Retention and Disposition Schedule. Remains current in skills necessary for assignment, including technology. Uses a variety of office equipment: computer, printer, copier, fax, paper cutter, shredder, adding machine, multi-line telephone, stapler, scanner, etc. Performs other responsibilities and duties, as needed, or assigned by the principal.Professionalism and Abilities:

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent bookkeeping experience preferred Office management, extensive secretarial work, or related experience preferred Working knowledge ofMicrosoft Excel and Outlook Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
