Design & Build is seeking an experienced Construction Bookkeeper who is analytical, detail-oriented, and proactive. This role requires someone who can manage the company's financial operations while actively supporting project managers with accurate budget tracking, material forecasting, and job costing. The ideal candidate has a strong background in construction accounting , QuickBooks , and job cost management , with the ability to generate weekly financial and budget reports that help drive operational decisions. Key Responsibilities Financial Management Accurately record all financial transactions including invoices, bills, receipts, and payments using QuickBooks. Track and categorize all expenses with proper job cost classification and documentation. Record all client payments (deposits, progress draws, and final payments). Generate and send client invoices in line with contract terms. Manage accounts payable, schedule vendor/subcontractor payments, and ensure timely payouts. Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on overdue balances. Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations and resolve discrepancies. Process payroll accurately, including taxes and deductions. Budget Oversight & Project Coordination Review project budgets prepared by project managers and ensure alignment with approved estimates. Track and analyze material budgets , labor costs , and change orders across all active projects. Prepare weekly budget forecast reports summarizing projected versus actual spending. Assist in takeoffs and verify that material orders stay within allocated allowances. Work closely with project managers to identify potential overages early and recommend corrective actions. Maintain and update master budget sheets for each project to ensure real-time accuracy. Reporting & Compliance Prepare weekly and monthly reports: job costing summaries, profit & loss, cash flow, and balance sheets. Support annual budget preparation and forecasting. Maintain organized digital and hard-copy financial records. Assist with internal audits and provide supporting documentation as needed. Recommend improvements to financial tracking systems and operational workflows. Qualifications 3-5 years of bookkeeping/accounting experience in construction (required) Strong understanding of construction job costing , budget forecasting , and financial tracking (required) Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, and data organization) Experience with budget management , takeoffs , and cost variance analysis Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment Excellent communication, organization, and time-management skills Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (occasional job site visits may be required) Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (preferred) CMA certification (preferred) Inclusive Hiring M.R.
