Job Summary:
The Business and Budget Operations Intern for the University Information Technology Services (UITS) will work with the Manager of Business and Budget Operations to provide analysis of budget planning and expense data to inform decision making and ongoing process improvement. This internship offers a unique opportunity for current UMass students to further explore higher education information technology finance and budget management. This part-time internship has a pay rate of $17 per hour. In addition to being paid, academic credit may also be available.
Essential Functions:
Assist with analysis of budget planning, utilization, and expense data. Will include compiling data from multiple sources into spreadsheets and creating pivot tables and charts to help with budget tracking and to inform process improvement. Analyze travel approval and travel expense data to assist in recommendations to improve planning, tracking, and process improvement in this area. Participate in planning meetings to assess and improve budget planning and tracking processes. Document and maintain datasets, ensuring accuracy and integrity. Assist in preparing reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders. Help develop tools and processes to improve operational efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience): Current UMass student enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program of study. GPA 3.0 or higher. Creative, eager to learn, motivated, and willing to take the initiative on assigned projects/tasks. Reliable and detail-oriented with a strong ability to multitask, stay organized, and meet deadlines. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must be well organized, detail-oriented, and possess good follow-up skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when interacting with staff. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint). Knowledge of general budgeting and accounting practices preferred.
Working Conditions:
Hybrid work environment. Primarily located at the UMass President's Office located 50 Washington Street, Westborough MA with remote work. Any offers of an internship within the President's Office are conditioned explicitly upon the potential candidate consenting to and completing a background review.
