Job Description:
Company Overview Bearing Line is a fractional CFO practice serving VC-backed SaaS and AI companies from Seed through Series B. Our clients have collectively raised 9+ figures from top-tier investors. We're doubling the team over the next year and need a Chief of Staff to help us do it without breaking what's working. The Role This is a three-part role, and you need to want all three. You'll function as Chief of Staff to the founder, run real FP&A analytics on client work, and drive our AI function forward as we build the next generation of the practice. Start by embedding directly with the founder on the highest-leverage workstreams. Over 12 months, you'll own many internal operations, lead AI initiatives across the firm, and be a senior analytical resource on client engagements. This is not a staff role
  • you are building leverage inside a growing firm, and your compensation reflects that. Career Progression Begin as the founder's right hand on prioritization, scoping, and orchestration. Take over the internal operating system of the firm
  • onboarding, scope documents, hiring cadence, team rhythm. Layer in FP&A work on client engagements and stand up our AI function as a real competitive advantage. Within 18-24 months, you are running a function of your own. What You Own Internal operating cadence
  • weekly priorities, hiring pipeline, onboarding new clients, scope discipline so we don't drift into COO work we didn't sell FP&A analytics on client engagements
  • financial models, board materials, dashboards, operational triggers for Seed through Series B SaaS and AI companies AI function buildout
  • identify use cases, evaluate tools, ship workflow automation and AI-assisted analysis that compounds our team's leverage across clients Founder leverage
  • own the things that currently sit on the founder's plate and shouldn't, freeing capacity for client work and growth Hiring and team coordination as we scale
  • run the process, not just sit in interviews Requirements 2 years at McKinsey, Bain, or BCG. We are explicit about this. The toolkit matters
  • structured problem-solving, executive communication, comfort with ambiguity, ability to scope and run workstreams independently Strong financial and analytical chops
  • you can open Excel and build a useful three-statement model or operating dashboard without hand-holding High agency
  • you see a gap and close it without being asked twice Comfortable as the youngest person in the room with founders, CFOs, and Series A/B operators Genuine interest in startups, finance, and AI as a long-term career direction Bonus
  • prior finance, banking, or PE exposure Bonus
  • you have shipped something real with LLMs or modern workflow tools Why This Role Most Chief of Staff roles are calendar management with a title.
This one gives you a portfolio of VC-backed clients, direct ownership of an AI function from day one, real analytical work on growth-stage finance problems, and a clear path to running a function as we scale. You will work directly with a founder who is ex-McKinsey, ex-PE, built startups, and very passionate about this space. Compensation $130-150k all in, with high growth each year. A portion will be performance based with a bonus tied to firm profits. Designed so you think and act like an owner, not an employee. Click to Apply. We are looking for someone to start this month.
