Job Description

We are looking for a strategic Chief Financial Officer to lead financial operations and guide business decisions for a multi-entity organization in Charlottesville, Virginia. This role combines hands-on oversight of accounting, reporting, cash management, and compliance with broader responsibility for planning, risk management, and operational support. The CFO will work closely with company leadership and department heads to strengthen financial visibility, improve performance measures, and support long-term organizational goals.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead the preparation of accurate monthly and periodic financial statements for multiple entities, ensuring leadership receives clear and timely reporting.
  • Present financial results, trends, and key insights to executive leadership and the board while providing practical guidance for decision-making.
  • Direct the budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning process across annual, quarterly, and monthly cycles.
  • Oversee accounting operations, including reconciliations, transaction documentation, and adherence to applicable accounting rules and reporting standards.
  • Manage liquidity, banking activity, and financing needs to support daily operations and broader business objectives.
  • Evaluate operational and financial risks, recommend mitigation strategies, and maintain strong coordination with insurance and workers' compensation partners.
  • Supervise capital spending, depreciation tracking, investment oversight, and physical inventory controls to protect company assets.
  • Serve as the lead administrator for financial and business software, oversee cloud-based records management, and provide oversight for payroll, HR support functions, and office administration.
  • Coordinate audit preparation, regulatory filings, tax-related reporting, contract review, and external firm communications to maintain compliance.
  • Lead and develop a nine-person team while partnering with managers across the business to define goals, track KPIs, and improve organizational performance.
