Back to jobs New Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Richmond, VA Apply The Opportunity InCharge Energy is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the company's financial strategy, operations, and organizational scaling as we continue to build a market-leading EV infrastructure platform. This role is responsible for the full finance function, including accounting, FP&A, and capital strategy—while also overseeing the company's People (HR) organization. The CFO will serve as a key partner to the CEO and executive team, owning both the financial integrity of the business and the organizational infrastructure required to scale effectively. This includes direct oversight of the Director of Accounting (Controller) and leadership of the People function, ensuring alignment between financial performance, workforce planning, and company growth. This role requires a leader who can operate at both a strategic and operational level—driving capital efficiency, building scalable systems, and developing a high-performing organization across finance and people functions.

What You'll Do Financial Strategy & Executive Leadership Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, helping define and execute company strategy Lead financial planning aligned to growth, profitability, and capital efficiency Provide strategic guidance on: Pricing and margin expansion Market expansion and partnerships Capital allocation and investment priorities Translate operational performance into actionable financial insights Finance & Accounting Leadership Own the full finance organization, including: Director of Accounting (Controller) and accounting team FP&A and financial planning Revenue operations Ensure accurate, timely financial reporting in compliance with US GAAP Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes (target: 5-7 days) Maintain a clean balance sheet and strong internal controls People (HR) Leadership & Organizational Planning Oversee the People/HR function , including: Workforce planning and headcount strategy Compensation and benefits design Performance management and organizational development Align hiring plans and organizational structure with financial targets and operating plan Partner with leadership to build a high-performance, accountable culture Ensure compliance with employment laws and HR best practices Operational Finance & Business Partnership Partner with operations, engineering, and commercial teams to drive: Project-level profitability Cost discipline across field service and deployment Revenue recognition aligned to complex contracts Establish financial visibility into: Site-level economics Service margins Hardware vs recurring revenue performance Inventory, Cost & Unit Economics Oversee financial strategy for: Inventory management Hardware costing Project and deployment economics Drive visibility into: Unit economics per charger/site Lifecycle profitability Ensure accurate inventory valuation and controls Capital Strategy & Investor Readiness Lead capital planning, including: Fundraising strategy Debt/equity structuring Investor engagement Build and maintain investor-grade financial models and Board reporting Support M&A, strategic partnerships, and due diligence Internal Controls, Compliance & Risk Management Establish and maintain strong internal controls and governance frameworks Ensure compliance with: US GAAP Multi-state and international tax requirements Lead external audits and manage auditor relationships Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks Systems, Data & Scalability Build scalable financial and organizational infrastructure to support growth Drive improvements in: ERP systems and reporting automation Data integrity across finance and HR systems Align financial systems with operational and workforce systems Team Leadership & Organizational Design Build and lead a high-performing organization across: Finance (Accounting, FP&A, Revenue) People/HR Establish clear KPIs, accountability, and performance standards Scale teams and structure in line with company growth Your Experience & Capabilities 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, including experience as a CFO or senior finance leader Strong experience across accounting, FP&A, and financial operations Deep knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting requirements Experience overseeing or closely partnering with People/HR functions Proven ability to build and scale financial systems, processes, and teams Experience with capital strategy, fundraising, and investor engagement Experience supporting Board reporting and executive-level decision making Strong understanding of operational finance, including project-based or field service environments Experience with inventory management, hardware costing, and unit economics Ability to translate operational performance into clear financial insights Experience operating in a high-growth, evolving environment Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence across functions Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required; CPA and/or MBA preferred What We Offer Full-time employees enjoy competitive compensation and benefits package including 401(k) matching contribution, health, dental, and vision, cell phone reimbursement (for most positions), generous vacation and paid sick leave, office meals and snacks, team building events and activities throughout the year.
