Current vacancy is with the Department of Risk Management located in Visalia, CA. The anticipated life of the list is six months. Level I and Level II will perform technical and administrative duties in support of Risk Management and County Counsel's general liability claims program and may support claims involving Property, Workers' Compensation and Insurance programs.
SALARY INFORMATION
Position can be filled at Level I or Level II depending on the applicants qualifications.Level I:
$4,284 - $5,221Monthly Level II:

Level I:
Perform claims examination and adjustment functions for the general liability, malpractice or other insurance programs. Ascertain the validity of the claim through research and develop recommendations for corrective action or resolution. Assist management to establish reserves for claims using defined guidelines and industry standards. For a full list of duties and responsibilities for Level I, please click here . In addition to the above, Level II will: Receive, review and analyze complex and routine claims and accident reports to determine the nature of the claim. Gather facts and data, interview witnesses, and write briefings, reports, memorandums, and recommendations. Coordinate assignments and work of independent adjusters and third party administrator in investigating claims. For a full list of duties and responsibilities for Level II, please click here . Minimum Qualifications Minimum qualifications are used as a guide for establishing the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license which are required and equivalent to the following. Education & Experience forLevel I:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by specialized administrative or secretarial training, or courses in public, business, or insurance administration. AND Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in a public agency performing insurance claims adjusting or processing, administrative support, or secretarial work. Education & Experience forLevel II:
Equivalent to completion of twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by specialized administrative or secretarial training, or courses in public, business, insurance administration, worker's compensation, or disability/leave management. AND Two (2) years of demonstrated increasingly responsible experience as a risk Management Technician I OR four (4) years of experience in an equivalent position working with claims or insurance adjustment, workers' compensation or disability/leave management.Knowledge of:
Methods and techniques of information gathering and interviewing. Math sufficient to compute and verify calculations on claims. Functions, procedures, and practices of a modern office environment.Skill/Ability to:
Work and communicate effectively with people of various educational and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers. Operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment. Write and print clearly, uniformly and legibly. Accurately post figures to various ledgers, documents and records. Proofread for errors in numbers, grammar and spelling. Read and compare information in reports, memos, lists and forms. Reconcile work daily. Deal tactfully with the public and other employees. Organize work in proper step-by-step order. Remain flexible to changes in workloads and stress of meeting deadlines. The retirement plan is a defined benefit plan administered pursuant to the 1937 Act County Employees Retirement Act and integrated with Social Security. In addition to ordinary retirement benefits, the plan provides disability and death benefits. Retirement contributions are made by both the County and the employee. The County has reciprocity with the State of California, contracting PERS agencies, and all County 1937 Act Retirement Systems.Paid Holiday Leave :
12 set days and 1 personal holiday.Vacation Accrual :
2 weeks per year (0-3 years of service) 3 weeks per year (3-7 years of service) 4 weeks per year (7-11 years of service) 5 weeks per year (11+ years of service) Limit of 300 hours. FLSA exempt employees accrue an additional 5 days of vacation per year.Sick Leave Accrual :
12 days per year with unlimited accumulation, 60 hours of which may be used toward family sick leave. Career Incentive Pay Employees who have completed five (5) or more Years of Service with Tulare County and meet the eligibility criteria described in Administrative Regulation - 52, earn additional pay according to the schedule below.
