Job Description

Apple Tree Dental is a nationally recognized, innovative non-profit group practice committed to delivering comprehensive, high-quality dental care to patients of all ages and abilities. We serve communities both at our Centers for Dental Health and through mobile and on-site services in long-term care and assisted living facilities, Head Start centers, group homes, and schools. We are currently seeking an Dental Claims Specialist to join our Corporate Team at our New Brighton center. This role is an essential part of our Billing department, responsible for posting insurance payments, allocating the payments to the proper services, following up on dental and medical insurance denials, resubmitting as necessary and subsequent collections from insurance companies and patients. A special function includes the recording and tracking of individual donations made to the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Enters checks and electronic payments from insurance companies and public programs (for selected locations) Allocates payments to the proper services/visit Submit dental and medical claims to insurance companies Follows up on dental and medical claims Reviews of ageing reports related to insurance. This includes investigating late payments and resolving dental and medical claims. Gathers payments from all Accounts Receivable staff as well as other cash/checks received for the day, and do the daily deposit(s) electronically, or at the bank in the case of cash Provides backup support for the Billing Specialist and Collection Specialist. Requirements High school diploma or GED required Experience working with Microsoft software, including Word and Excel Experience with dental/medical software, such as, but not limited to, Open Dental Billing and Collections experience preferred Additional Expectations Listens to, understands and appropriately responds to patient/customer needs. Meets the reasonable needs of all patient/family/customer groups and improves overall customer satisfaction Demonstrates professional behavior with his/her work. Complies with personnel and departmental policies. Supports and participates in quality improvement activities. Works actively with others to get the job done. Consistently exhibits positive behavior/actions, including maintaining a positive attitude. Supports and participates in changes and discussions regarding work practices Acts and speaks respectfully regardless of the presence or absence of the person. Frequently offers praise to others for doing a good job. Listens to and respects the opinions of others, and maintains confidentiality. Demonstrates enthusiasm and commitment towards personal growth and development; completes and attends mandated educational courses. Maintain current licensure and certifications, if applicable. Attends and participates in departmental meetings, and if unable to attend proactively asks or gathers missed information. Addresses issues in a courteous and respectful manner. Maintains the same standard for all patients/families and co-workers. Supports co-workers and patients/families in a positive manner. Follows safety practices. Identifies problems and works to resolve safety issues as they occur and in accordance with policy, asking for assistance when necessary. Helps and teaches others. Ability to operate a computer and basic office equipment Must be well organized and detail oriented Excellent math skills Ability to work in a team, and willingness to be the back up person for others on the accounting team Physical Demands This position requires sitting, walking and standing associated with a normal office environment. Manual dexterity is needed for using a calculator, adding machine and keyboard We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses.
